News from around the aviation world

What to look out for when flying

Due to the current situation, travelling by plane has changed significantly. Not only that many flights were canceled due to the pandemic, but also that planned trips literally fell into the water. The corona pandemic is currently causing restrictions and concerns among travelers – even if many borders are reopened.

Even if nearly all the airlines have good hygiene plans and disinfect their aircrafts several times, general protective measures for passengers apply. Wearing a mask is essential, even during the flight. Most holiday destinations require a negative PCR test, a full vaccination or proof that you have recovered from CV-19 when entering the country.

Regarding the service on board, you better don’t count on any snacks. On European flights, for example, Lufthansa does not offer drinks and snacks at all. Outside of Europe, the service is better, but still heavily reduced.

Fear of flying

How the fear of flying prevents you from traveling to the most beautiful places in the world

In Germany alone, around 15% of the population suffer from fear of flying. Studies show that those affected find it particularly difficult to give up control and trust the pilot and the machine.

During my time as a flight attendant, I had many passengers on board who were struggling with fear of flying. The fear was noticeable individually for each guest: while women often approached me directly and told me their needs, most men were more reserved. The trigger for fear is in many cases the general fear of height and tightness, stories about accidents or personal bad experiences such as turbulence.

Many people have a queasy feeling just getting on a plane and often already days before that. Although the plane is statistically the safest mode of transport, the fear of a crash remains. Negative thoughts start the vicious circle of fear. Even before the flight, those affected imagine what could go wrong. Simply through these thoughts alone, their

pulse increases. The person concerned interprets such changes in the body as a threat. The fear increases as a result and the body reacts with strong palpitations, muscle tension and faster, shallow breathing. My tip: let the cabin crew know as soon as you board that you suffer from fear of flying. So they can keep an eye on you during the flight and help if necessary. I will devote myself again to the topic of fear of flying in a detailed blog entry.

Visa

For which countries you need a visa

Traveling to other countries usually goes smoothly, but a visa is essential for many countries

A visa is the authorization to travel to certain countries. There are visas for entry, exit, transit or stay. The visa is usually issued by the consulate or embassy of the relevant country and can come in various forms; so it can be found as a glued or inserted visa in the passport. The regulations for the various types of visas are not global and in some cases differ enormously.

However, in only a few countries it is only possible to issue a visa directly when crossing the border. It is best to find out about the exact visa regulations on the country page of your holiday destination so that there are no problems when you arrive.

These are the countries where you can be very sure that you will need a visa:

Egypt Australia

China Gambia

India Indonesia

Israel Jordan

Kenya Cambodia

Cuba Maldives

Oman Myanmar

Sri Lanka Philippines

Vietnam Venezuela
